Getting started on Mac

  1. 1

    Pick a tool

    Pick Image compression, PDF compression, Video compression, Audio compression, Create archive or Extract archive in the sidebar. Use New batch for a separate task; earlier batches stay under Recent tasks.

    Add files

    Drag files or folders into the window, or click Add. Compression tools start right away with the defaults: images use 30% quality and Standard resource use.

  3. 3

    Adjust

    Change size, reduction, quality or format on the right; PubToo reprocesses after a brief pause, and existing results stay exportable meanwhile. Use Apply to for all files or just the selected ones — settings applied to all also become the default for later imports.

    Review

    Click a file to preview it and use slide or side-by-side comparison. Hold Command or Shift to select several; Delete removes the selection from the list without deleting the originals.

    Export

    Click Export to save every finished result, or use the menu next to it to export only the current or selected files. Folder structure is kept and duplicate names are numbered. Packing and extracting only run when you click Create archive or Extract this archive.

Tools, formats and limits

What the current version (1.1.10) supports.

Image compression

  • Imports JPEG, PNG, HEIC/HEIF, WebP, AVIF, TIFF, BMP, system-supported RAW, GIF, APNG and animated WebP. Exports still images as JPEG, PNG, HEIC, WebP or AVIF, and animations as GIF or animated WebP.
  • Three controls: Quality sets lossy encoding quality; Size sets a strict file-size limit; Reduce sets the limit relative to the original, so “reduce by 60%” keeps at most 40% of the original size. 1 KB = 1,000 bytes.
  • If a target can’t be met, you’ll see an error — raise the limit or turn on Resize if needed. With that option off, resolution is always preserved.
  • Resource use Low, Standard and High map to Fast, Balanced and Maximum encoding. Higher levels usually take longer and may produce smaller files, but never lower the quality you set.
  • JPEG and HEIC fill transparent areas with white; other formats keep transparency. Output is sRGB SDR with location and camera metadata removed.
  • Limits: 80 MP per image; up to 300 animation frames and 256 MB of decoded animation data. Multi-page TIFF, HEIF sequences and animated AVIF aren’t supported; RAW support depends on your operating system and your camera model.

PDF compression

  • PDF in, PDF out, with Lossless, Balanced and Smaller modes and an optional target size per file.
  • Size is reduced mainly by optimizing the file structure and recompressing embedded images. Pages are never turned into pictures, so text, bookmarks and links keep working.
  • Signed PDFs export a copy with the digital signature removed; the visible signature appearance is kept and you are notified. Originals stay unchanged. Forms and PDF/A use conservative processing; PubToo does not validate PDF/A compliance.

Video compression

  • Imports MP4, MOV, M4V, 3GP and 3G2 and exports MP4 in H.264 or HEVC, at the original resolution or scaled to 1080p or 720p.
  • You can set a target size per file. HEVC isn’t guaranteed to be smaller than H.264.
  • For HDR video, choose HEVC on a device that supports it. Selecting H.264 prompts you to switch to HEVC.

Audio compression

  • Imports MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, AIFF, FLAC, CAF, Opus and more (plus OGG on Mac). Exports AAC (M4A), ALAC (M4A) or FLAC.
  • Sample rate and channels are kept by default. ALAC and FLAC conversions are lossless.
  • MP3 export isn’t available. Floating-point and 32-bit integer audio can’t be converted losslessly; the original is left as is.

Create archive

  • Pack everything into one archive, or each file or folder into its own; choose ZIP or 7z.
  • Add a password (AES-256). 7z can also encrypt file names and split into volumes. ZIP isn’t split, and RAR archives can’t be created.
  • Packing stores files as they are — images, PDFs, video and audio inside are not recompressed. Passwords are never saved.

Extract archive

  • Supports ZIP, 7z, RAR/RAR5, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, LZMA and combined formats such as .tar.gz. Split 7z volumes are recognized as one archive.
  • Browse and search the contents first, then extract everything or selected items. Results go to a separate folder and never overwrite existing files.
  • Paths that escape the destination, absolute paths and unsafe links are refused. Very large extractions (for example over 2 GB, or an unusually high compression ratio) ask for confirmation first. PubToo never runs extracted files.

PubToo Go on iPhone and iPad

PubToo Go has the same six tools as the Mac edition and requires iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later. Pick a tool on the home screen, then import from Files, Photos, the share sheet or Shortcuts.

Tap Adjust at the bottom to open settings; changes apply automatically, and Done closes the panel. Export saves to Files or Photos, or shares to another app.

Each batch is saved separately. Recent tasks are kept on the device for 7 days and up to 1 GB by default, and older results are cleaned up automatically. Files you export are yours to manage.

PubToo Lite on Android

Requires Android 10 or later and includes all six tools. Pick a tool on the home screen, add files or whole folders with the system picker, or share files from another app.

Tap Adjust to change settings; edits apply automatically. Wide tablets and unfolded phones can show the preview and controls together. While processing, the system notification shows progress and lets you cancel.

Save results to Files or Photos, or share them. Recent tasks stay on the device for 7 days and up to 1 GB by default; change or disable this in Settings. Exported files are yours to manage.

Purchases and subscriptions

PubToo (Mac), PubToo Go (iPhone and iPad) and PubToo Lite (Android) are free to download. Each includes a 14-day app trial that never charges you automatically.

After the trial, choose a monthly, quarterly or yearly subscription, or lifetime access. All three editions are purchased separately; one Go purchase covers iPhone and iPad on the same Apple Account.

Apple handles payments, renewals, cancellations and refunds for Mac and Go. On a new device or after reinstalling, use Restore Purchases in the app. Earlier paid-download customers keep their access.

Google Play handles Lite purchases, subscriptions and refunds. Use your original Google Account to restore a purchase. File processing stays local; subscription status needs periodic online checks.
